If you would like to make a donation to the GATE Program, please mail a tax-deductible donation to the WCSD GATE Program (Tax ID # 88-6000919), please mail a check to:

- May 31, 2014 Family STEM Day »
UPDATE: The STEM event on May 31st was a blast! Attendees were able to work with robots, build and test rockets, build puff mobiles, and towers out of spaghetti. They also exercised their brains on fun math problems and tangrams, and learned the science behind natural gas explosions. Some members of the community even came to speak to Wally Funk about her experiences in the Mercury 13 program. We are still
calculating the total profit from this event, but it was definitely a success!
We would like to thank the UNR School of Engineering, the Northern Nevada Children's Museum, Sage Ridge, Bricks 4 Kidz, NV Energy and our fabulous group of GATE Teachers (Matt Oates, Tim Robinson, Rena Huntington, Erin Wilkinson, Laura Balsley, Bett Korinek, Sue Gonyou, Garrett Moss, Jackie Ramerez, Reggie Cruz and Mona Melton) for providing STEM activities at the event.
We would also like to thank everyone who donated prizes for the student drawing! We had over 50 prizes to give out to students who sold more than 2 books of raffle tickets! Students should receive their prizes soon!
Please join us in the big gym at Wooster HS on May 31st from 12-2 for a Family STEM event. The event will be open to the public and entry will be free!
We will have interactive STEM lessons for the whole family and food vendors such as Bodawg's Food Truck, and Lazy Sundae Food Truck. Grassroots will also be giving away free books!
Around 1pm we will be holding a cash raffle. Buy your tickets that day or in advance from a GATE student to win one of four cash prizes up to $3,000!!
Need not be present to win cash prizes. Prizes will be the stated amounts when at least $8,000 is raised from the raffle. Otherwise prizes will be adjusted proportionally to equal 50% of money raised.
