Our Mission

The mission of GT Parent Connection is to provide information, support, and educational opportunities for parents and educators of gifted and talented students in Washoe County, Nevada.

GT Parent Connection (GTPC) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation governed by a Board of Directors comprised of parent volunteers, and includes families at public schools, private schools, charter schools, and home school.

The organization works in close collaboration with the Washoe County School District (WCSD), the Gifted and Talented Advisory Council (GTAC), gifted parent groups throughout Nevada, the National Association of Gifted Children (NAGC), and the local community for the benefit of all gifted and talented students.

The group has grown steadily, with an email network comprised of parents and educators who receive current information relating to local, state, and national news in gifted education and issues.

Created by a small group of parents of gifted and talented students in Washoe County, Nevada, in September, 2003, the group recognized the unique social, emotional, and academic needs of gifted and talented children, and the many challenges facing parents and educators of these children.

Founding members strove to create a communication network for parents and teachers of gifted students, to gather and disperse information about gifted and talented programs and resources, and to advocate for this student population.

GT Parent Connection incorporated in Nevada in November of 2005, and was granted 501(c)(3) status the following year.

GT Parent Connection holds meetings and events that include educational programs, guest speakers, discussion, and an annual resource fair. There are typically five general meetings during each academic year, as well as Board meetings and planning meetings.

Educational programs include a wide variety of topics, such as social and emotional needs, academic options, enrichment, age-level needs, and advice from experts.

We are solely dependent on the willingness of parent volunteers to run the organization, plan and present meetings and events, and collaborate with district and community organizations.
