HISTORY OF GTPC
GT Parent Connection was created by a small group of parents of gifted and talented students
in Washoe County, Nevada, in September, 2003. The group recognized the unique social, emotional, and academic needs of gifted and
talented children, and the many challenges facing parents and educators of these children.
Founding members strove to create a communication network for parents and teachers of gifted students, to gather and
disperse information about gifted and talented programs and resources, and to advocate for this student population.
GT Parent Connection incorporated in Nevada in November of 2005, and was granted 501(c)(3)
status the following year.
The group has grown steadily, with an email network of over 700 parents and educators who
receive current information relating to local, state, and national news in gifted education and
issues.
ACTIVITIES
GT Parent Connection holds meetings and events that include educational programs, guest speakers, discussion, and an annual
resource fair. There are typically five general meetings during each academic year, as well as Board meetings and planning
meetings.
Educational programs include a wide variety of topics, such as social and emotional needs, academic options,
enrichment, age-level needs, and advice from experts.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
GT Parent Connection is solely dependent on the willingness of parent volunteers to run the organization, plan and present
meetings and events, and collaborate with district and community organizations. All member parents are encouraged to participate
for a specific job or event, or in an ongoing role.
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact us at info@gtparentconnection.org.
